Coronary Angiography
It is an invasive procedure performed on people who are
thought to have a problem with their coronary arteries. The purpose of coronary
angiography is to take a series of films to visualize the vessels of the heart
and decide how to treat them.
Reasons for Coronary Angiography
To support Clinical Diagnosis
To confirm a suspected diagnosis
To determine the severity of the disease
To reveal the location of the lesion
To give surgeons enough information
Coronary Angiography is a diagnostic method, not a treatment
Things to Know Before Coronary
Angiography
1. Arrive at the hospital on the day of the angio appointment hungry (8
hours).
2. Shave your groin area on both sides and take a bath before coming to the
hospital.
3. You will be admitted to the hospital and taken to the angiography
program.
4. You can bring one person with you to help with the hospitalization.
5. If you bring any previous angiography reports, tests or medications you
are taking, you will be able to answer questions about your health more
quickly.
6. Your coronary angiography preparations will be made by our doctors and
nurses (ECG, blood tests, tranquilizer injection)
7. For security reasons, please do not bring money and jewelry with you to
the hospital, if possible.
8.An intravenous catheter will be inserted in your left arm to administer
serum and medication when necessary and this catheter will remain in your arm
until you are discharged.
9.You will wear a special gown and cap, remove your glasses, dentures,
teeth/palate and jewelry before being taken down to the angiography laboratory.
10. In the Coronary Angiography Laboratory, the procedure area will be
numbed with anesthetic so that you will not feel any pain related to the
procedure.
11. The coronary angiography procedure is completed in 10-15 minutes.
During the procedure, you will be able to watch the films and ask questions.
12.You will be given watery foods for 2 hours after angiography.
13.If necessary, you can be followed up in your room or in the Coronary
Intensive Care Unit for 1 day.
14. If your vascular structure is normal, you can be discharged after 6-7
hours * after your controls.
Information Form
After Coronary Angiography
Conditions requiring hospitalization
There may be redness and small swelling at the angioplasty site. These will
disappear within a few days. If you experience egg-sized or larger swelling in
this area, consult your doctor.
Cautions to be taken
- Avoid hot showers or baths for 48 hours after coronary angiography.
- Avoid strenuous exercise for at least two days.
- Do not drive a car or use foot-related machinery for at least 2 days.
- Drink more than 2.5 liters of fluid per day for at least 2 days.
Angiography
If significant stenosis is detected after angiography, PTCA (balloon vein
opening) and/or STENT (steel cage) will be performed in the same session or at
a later date by appointment.
Ptca/Stent
The decision to perform PTCA/STENT is based on all criteria. Before
starting the procedure, necessary tests are performed and medications are given
to control bleeding. In the PTCA procedure, a guide catheter is inserted into
the blocked area and a catheter with a balloon at the end is inflated. If there
is a high chance of blockage, a stent (steel cage) is placed there.
Things to Know After PTCA I STENT
SERVICE PERIOD
- After this procedure, you will stay in the intensive care unit for 24
hours.
- At the end of this period, the necessary checks will be made and if it is
concluded that there is no harm in your discharge, your discharge procedures
will be carried out.
RELATIONSHIP WITH PATIENT RELATIVES
-As patient relatives, it is your most natural right to receive information
about your patient.
-We believe that it is important that 1 person from the patient's relatives can
receive the necessary information from our physicians as a representative and
convey it to other relatives in order to prevent any confusion that may arise.
-When you want to meet with our doctors, the department secretary will help you
in this regard.
PATIENT VISITS
-When the patient is on the ward, you can make short visits that do not tire
the patient.
-This is because the patient can become infected very quickly and excessive
visits can lead to contamination of the room air.
-Therefore, the fewer and shorter the visits, the better.
CONTROL PROCEDURES
-When you are discharged, you will be given a card with your medication.
Please bring your appointment card and your prescription with you on the date
of your check-up.
-Each time you come to the doctor, come with your angio report form given to
you before.
What Should We Pay Attention to After Ptca / Stent
-Smoking causes your blood circulation and heartbeat to increase
(palpitations), causing narrowing and damage to your arteries. For this reason,
smoking is strictly forbidden. It takes about 7-10 days to return to your old
activity after PTCA / STENT. During this period, it is recommended to avoid
activities that will tire you and excessive excitement.
-Weight is a very important problem especially in patients with coronary artery
disease. After PTCA/STENT, you should definitely lose a certain amount of
weight, reach and maintain a normal weight by taking care of this.
