Periodontal Treatment
Periodontitis, which is very common in the society, is the
inflammation of the gums and surrounding tissues. It causes loss of teeth over
the years. When detected and treated at an early stage, teeth can be preserved.
Some of these treatments include detartraj or cleaning of deep tissues.
Gum treatment includes a range of treatments aimed at improving the health and
condition of the gums. Gum disease is usually caused by inflammation and
infections in the gums and in severe cases can even lead to tooth loss. Here is
general information about gum treatment:
Dental Examination: The first step
is usually done by a dentist or periodontist (gum disease specialist). An
intraoral examination and, if necessary, x-rays are taken to assess the condition
of your teeth and gums.
Scaling: Tartar can cause gingivitis. As part of gum treatment, tartar and
plaque are removed from tooth surfaces. This is usually done using ultrasonic
instruments or specialized dental cleaning tools.
Root Planing: In advanced forms of
gingivitis and gum disease, root planing can be performed to clean and smooth
the roughness on the root surfaces of the teeth. This procedure aims to promote
gum pocket cleaning and healing.
Pocket Irrigation: Gum pockets are
one of the symptoms of gum diseases. Special solutions or medications can be
used to remove bacteria that have accumulated in these pockets. This procedure
is important to maintain and improve gum health.
Surgical Interventions: In some
cases, surgical interventions may be required to repair severely damaged gums
or bone tissue. Such surgical procedures may include procedures such as gum
grafts, bone grafts or periodontal pocket reduction.
Periodic Follow-up and Care: After
gum treatment, it is important to visit the dentist regularly and pay attention
to dental hygiene. Regular teeth cleaning and periodic examinations are
necessary to prevent recurrence of gum disease.
Gum treatment is an important part of maintaining gum health and treating
advanced gum disease. However, the appropriate treatment method for each
patient may differ, so a personalized treatment plan should be created in
consultation with a dentist or periodontist.
